The Radiator is a vital part that ensures the engine will run smoothly. An engine must be kept cool to avoid overheating. The normal movement of the pistons causes friction, which can lead to overheating and eventually total engine failure. To prevent this from happening water and anti-freeze are pumped through the engine to absorb the heat and draw it away from vital components of the engine.
The fluid returns to the radiator through a hose and into many chambers. As the hot engine coolant flows through these chambers the excess heat is drawn out through the walls of the radiator. A fan forces cooler air through the radiator to speed up the cooling process. The radiator is also cooled from the outside air coming through the grill of the car.
Once the fluid has been cooled down it is returned through the engine and the process is repeated. If the flow of coolant is blocked or there is a loss of fluid, the engine will overheat and potentially cause the motor to seize.
